My favorite hotel terraces in Barcelona

Summer is the season for terraces, and the perfect moment to enjoy the nice outdoor weather but we have to admit that Barcelona is located in a privileged Mediterranean climate, and that these terraces can be enjoyed at any time of the year. These are the ideal attraction to get guests and foodies, a claim for both locals and tourists. Under this guide, most hotels that have this precious treasure, invent and rethink the deal to offer culinary innovations, combinations of (possible and impossible) cocktails, jazz concerts, flamenco, opera or indie music - fashion - and you can even find a magician dazzling with his tricks or a cartoonist drawing. Any distraction to accompany served cocktails or gin tonics: views, music, drinks and fun.
In fact any excuse is good to go out and have fun, having said this, of course it is part of our Mediterranean character and this is confirmed as the terraces are always really fully booked.

Here you have a selection of my favorite terraces, where you will mostly find me frequently, and is to grab to eat, snack or drinks with friends. It is a luxury to have of these terraces with views and privileged locations in Barcelona: an affordable luxury for all budgets.

Jardín Mimosa y el Terrat in Mandarin Oriental Hotel
The sophisticated, discreet and elegant 660sqm terrace combines sun, nature and privacy in equal parts, giving a way to a charming corner: a beautiful garden in the inner courtyard of the hotel, typical of the central Barcelona district of the Eixample. They only serve drinks. It is the perfect place to be isolated from the hustle and bustle of the city. Not open the whole year, better ask before getting up.
And from this season you can enjoy the terrace on the ninth floor of the wonderful building's Mandarin Oriental, at the moment it is only open to guests. El Terrat is an ideal place to have a drink and especially to taste nikkei cuisine - a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese food.

Roba Estesa and Terraza del Lounge Bar in Hotel Neri
The only Relais Chateaux in Barcelona is Hotel Neri, offers two terraces: the small but charming terrace Roba Estesa (hanging clothes in Catalan), is one of the very discrete places where you can drink a good cocktail and grab a snack in a feng-shui inspired setting and view roofs of the neighbours of the Gothic quarter. Located on the 4th floor of the hotel and with air very fresh, the client can taste from a terrine of foie gras with rose and apple marmalade to a salmon carpaccio with dill butter, a hamburger steak with Arugula, cheese and chips, fancy, isn't it?
The terrace of the Lounge Bar, located in the amazing gothic plaza de Sant Felip Neri serving breakfast, lunch and dinners and it is the ideal place to take a snack at any time of the day, while surrounded of living history.

B Hotel
This three-star hotel, is for my practically like a five star: spacious design, fun and practical amenities, the secret to discover cool B-Bar with delicious cocktails - my favorite spicy mango margarita or the gin gin mule-, wifi included, a very large breakfast and its magnificent terrace. This consists of an infinity pool with views of Montjuïc, is a place that few locals know and a secret where you can taste some tapas and drinks.

Ànemos Terrace Bar en Cram hotel
This fantastic hotel of contemporary design and having had recently a profound renovation, has a terrace overlooking the l'Eixample district with a long, narrow pool that is perfect for cool summer evenings. In addition, on the terrace, closed in winter, is where breakfast and I can assure that it is one of the best breakfasts in town, for variety and quality. Since this May, the restoration is headed by 2 Michelin star Chef Jordi Cruz, a great excuse to go to the Anemos terrace and eat something in the light of the Moon and with views to the Tibidabo.

Terraza in Hotel Omm
Is the perfect place to see and to be seen. Moët Chandon festivities take place in several days this summer to present the innovative Moët Ice Imperial which is a must for the urbanites who are or want to be something. During the day exclusive access for guests of the hotel, the sunsets are to share with visitors not staying in the Hotel Omm. Sharing appetisers in the sushi bar, or the Rocambolesc ice cream by the three starred Michelin chefs Roca brothers. All with views of the Sagrada Familia and Eixample district.

Skybar in Grand Central Hotel
It is undoubtedly among the top three best terraces in Barcelona, by design, location and its infinity pool where multiple films have been recorded together with photo shootings. Nothing more to add.

Hotel Bagués
It is obviously the perfect advantage point to observe the hordes of tourists who harp on the Ramblas. It is the best location to observe without being observed. It is also a small but flirtatious pool to discover the bodies of its users and a few worthy cocktails. The ideal spot for locals who want to see the city as a tourist.

Alaire in Hotel Condes de Barcelona
The spectacular Alaire terrace occupies the entire roof of the center building of the Hotel, which provides a privileged landscape of the modernist Barcelona with the silhouettes of La Pedrera in foreground and the Sagrada familia in the rear guard. It is one of the perfect places for a drink with friends. One of my regular places especially when there is sunset. You should not miss it.

La Terraza del Claris
Located on the top floor and the pool of the hotel, the terrace of the Claris is an ideal place to enjoy summer evenings and in winter is under crystal glass, offering spectacular views of the centre of Barcelona. It offers Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, with several choices of menu and menu à la carte. Simply a must.

Mercer Hotel
Built between real Roman walls, this wonderful hotel has a terrace with magnificent views of the Born neighbourhood and the Cathedral consisting of a small pool, but more important its discretion and abstraction between Roman walls and old houses in the Gothic district of Barcelona.

La Dolce Vitae in Hotel Majestic
La Dolce Vitae is one of my suggestions for my friends visiting Barcelona, it gives them a unique perspective. It is the ideal place to relax after a small but wonderful adjacent spa treatment. Features a small pool to soak, and a mural colorist Philip Stanton bordering the pool and connects with the Mediterranean air of furniture by Kettal. From this year the gastronomy is under the supervision of starred Michelin Chef Nandu Jubany, another reason to visit to La Dolce Vitae.

Frank's in Hotel Arts
In The Ritz-Carlton Barcelona, the terrace it is called Frank because having a drink you can see Frank Gehry’s giant fish. Music, good vibes, good food, it is the ideal place for meetings with friends in a sophisticated seaside atmosphere. From cheeses and Iberian ham to Japanese inspirations and dim-sum dishes, accompanied by good cocktails and wine. You can find live music every Wednesday only in the summer.

Ohla Terraza Chill-Out
This magnificent terrace with views of Barcelona’s Gothic quarter, has a transparent pool properly illuminated and it is the perfect setting for the evenings. Some days they offer jazz or live blues bands. Cool and quiet environment. I promise you will love it.

Renaissance Barcelona Fira Hotel
This brand new hotel, away from the city centre, has a large terrace and swimming pool approximately one hundred meters high in a fantastic building designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel. From there the view of the entrance of Barcelona is really superb and no doubt parties can be arranged until late. There are no neighbours.

Miramar Bar in Gran Hotel La Florida
The big Lady of the terraces of Barcelona and the only one offering vision circular one hundred per cent citywide. Impressive and the place that go with calm - known as slow-terracing. Stunning sunsets combined with good food or a drink. Go, you will thank me for it forever.

Bonus Track: not all the terraces have views. Between the terraces without views, which occupy the classic inner courtyards of Eixample district I suggest my three favourites in the city centre: Hotel Indigo, Alma Hotel (offers both terraces) and Room Mate Pau, or in the Uptown ABaC Barcelona which has a terrace which is a private garden of stately mansion or the Primero Primera Hotel which is really very discrete. The best place to fight the heat in the Catalan metropole.
